Sports Nutrition Fellow

The College of Charleston Athletic Department is seeking applicants for a Sports Nutrition Fellow to begin January, 2025. This position will continue until May 2025, with the potential to stay on for the following academic year. This is a part-time position, 25-30 hours per week. This role will assist in the development of the CofC Sports Nutrition Department. Under the supervision of the Director of Sports Nutrition, this individual will provide nutrition education and counseling, and assist, as well as lead in program development for assigned teams and student-athletes 

Essential Responsibilities & Skills 

  • Works as an integrative member of the Sports Performance team to support the athletic and nutritional goals of coaches and student-athletes.   
  • Assists Director of Sports Nutrition with providing comprehensive nutrition services to assigned teams/student athletes.  Including: comprehensive nutrition assessments, administering and interpreting body composition analysis; implementing individual and team nutrition plans, providing nutrition education to individuals and teams; creating and updating nutrition education materials; counseling athletes on dietary supplements use and banned substances, providing guidance on travel meals.  
  • Collaborates and maintains effective communication with coaching staffs, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, team physicians, athletic administration, and food service personnel regarding athletes’ nutrition needs.  
  • Assists in management of assigned Fueling Station operations including product inventory, ordering, receiving, unloading, and distribution and assist in management of student workers. 
  • Manages department’s social media accounts. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with student-athletes, colleagues, professionals, and administrators. 
  • Strong organizational skills to manage shifting priorities and changing pace of workload. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with culturally diverse students and staff. 
  • Works independently with minimal direction and adapts to a non-standard workweek, including nights, weekends, and holidays. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES    

This position is responsible for assisting in the supervision of work study students, volunteers, and interns in nutrition related areas.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's Degree in nutrition/dietetics or other related field from an accredited university or college 
  • Must be a current Registered Dietitian (RD) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration 
  • Demonstrate strong written and interpersonal skills with student-athletes, coaches and/or various other people inside and outside of an athletic department 
  • Foodservice/catering experience 
  • Proficient with Canva, MS Office Word, Excel, and Outlook programs 

  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master's Degree in nutrition or other related field from an accredited university or college 
  • Experience providing nutrition/dietary services for a professional sport or NCAA Division I athletics program 
  • Experience in medical nutrition therapy, including eating disorder counseling 
  • Knowledge of food service quality and safety 

 

Other Requirements 

Must be eligible for, successfully apply, and receive a South Carolina Dietitian License within 90 days of employment
