Georgia Southern University is seeking applicants for the Director of Football Nutrition position. The Director of Football Nutrition will implement daily performance needs, develop and present education information, and conduct individual counseling sessions with Georgia Southern Football student-athletes. This position may require work beyond the normal schedule including nights, weekends, some holidays, and travel. Full-Time: Benefits Eligible.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition or closely related field

• Master’s degree in nutrition or a nutrition-related field

• 2 years of experience as an employee, fellow, intern, or graduate assistant with intercollegiate/professional athletics or sports-related field

• Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with active status through the Commission on Dietetic Registration

• Licensed Dietitian in the state of Georgia 90 days after hire

• CPR/AED and First Aid certification

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license


Preferred Qualifications:

• Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) and have previous experience working in collegiate athletics environment

• Maintain dietetic registration and continuing education requirements

• Maintain membership and active involvement in local, state, and national professional associations (i.e., Academy of Nutrition of Dietetics, CPSDA)

• Collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities/Competencies:

• Conduct the dietary assessment and counseling of football student-athletes to include fueling for optimal performance, recovery, weight management, dietary supplements, prevention of heat illness and dehydration, and sport injury and illness

• Maintain knowledge of special diets, allergies, and intolerances, and communicate this information with the sports medicine team and student athletes to allow them to meet unique needs to compete at the highest level

• Facilitate and develop team nutrition education sessions and materials/resources.

• Analyze and/or conduct body composition assessments and hydration assessments. Be able to interpret and communicate results 

• Provide personalized meal and snack plans to promote achieving short and long-term goals for athletic performance and good health

• Coordinate pre- and post-game meals and snacks for home and away games

• Educate in food selection (grocery store tours, food storage) and food preparation (cooking classes)

• Stay up to date on the latest in peer-reviewed research as it pertains to athletic performance and performance nutrition

• Develop and implement sports nutrition policies and procedures

• Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines as it relates to communication of student-athlete health status regarding sport participation

• Knowledge of NCAA and Sun Belt Conference rules and regulations 


Required Managerial Tasks:

• Participate in recruiting events by providing presentations to prospective student athletes and parents

• Utilize social media outlets to share and educate student-athletes and support staff on nutritional standards and practices

• Manage the sports nutrition budget including ordering, inventory, and procurement of goods through vendors for the fueling station

• Manage student volunteers and interns
