The Athletics Department is searching for a motivated individual with a passion

for health and wellness regarding sports nutrition. The position looking to be filled is a

Graduate Assistant for Nutrition who will work directly with all sports teams and

the Strength and Conditioning staff to provide information and education to the

student-athletes for improving their sports performance using nutrition. This

Graduate Assistantship includes full tuition and a $5,000 stipend for the

academic year.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree- Nutrition/Dietetics from an accredited institution.
  • Able to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiar with the NCAA procedures and protocols.
  • In pursuit of a Nutrition master’s degree and RD licensure.
  • Possess strong computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Able to maintain the cleanliness of the Fueling Station.
  • Passionate, dedicated, hard-working and organized with excellent written/verbal communication skills and a strong desire to pursue a career in sports nutrition.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee nutrition volunteer staff.
  • Conducting initial consultations and evaluations.
  • Providing guidelines to reduce or eliminate unhealthy behaviors.
  • Manage and supervise the Nutrition Fueling Station and other fuel zones as assigned regarding proper food safety and adherence to New Haven Performance Nutrition Standards.
  • Assist athletes at Training Table regarding performance goals.
  • Monitor the Training Table for quality control and menu adherence.
  • Individual counseling with food log analysis and appropriate meal plans.
  • Educate regarding food selection (grocery store tours, food storage) and food preparation.
  • Develop and administer nutrition education and team talks.
  • Assist with individual and team game day travel operations for pre/post competition meals and hydration.
  • Meeting the needs of the student-athletes as it relates to allergies and other dietary restrictions.
  • Assess and analyze student-athletes’ dietary practices, body composition, and energy balance in the context of athletic performance and health.
  • Assess and counsel student-athletes and staff on the appropriate and legal use of dietary supplements in accordance with NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) regulations and nutrition-related bylaws.
  • Communicating daily with athletic trainers, strength coaches and physicians.
  • Assist with managing and monitoring snack/supplement distribution including ordering, shipping and receiving.
  • Collaborate with food service providers to develop, manage, order and receive team menus for catered meals.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with body comp assessment tools.
  • Experience in collegiate sports nutrition work or volunteer.
