University of Maryland Olympic Sports Nutrition Fellow

The University of Maryland, College Park is looking for applicants for a Sports Nutrition Fellow that would work with Olympic Sports.  This position would actively participate as a member of the Maryland Sports Nutrition Staff and act as the primary Sports Dietitian for Maryland Cross Country,  Track and Field & Women’s Tennis as well as assist the full-time Sports Dietitians with other assigned Olympic Sports teams, all fueling stations, nutrition education, in-season fueling plans, menu writing, cooking classes, etc.  Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition (or health related field), Registered Dietitian licensure (or RD eligible) and at least 40 hours per week time commitment (non-traditional work hours).  A desire to pursue a career in sports nutrition is highly recommended. This position will be paid at an hourly rate. You will gain experience in a Division I Athletics program and be mentored by three Full Time Sports Dietitians.  Appointment will begin July 2025 and will complete June 30, 2026. Screening of applications will begin mid-April but the position will be open until the appropriate candidates are selected. Please submit all application materials through this Google Form . 

Duties Include:

  • Manage the education, counseling, and fueling for Cross Country, Track and Field, and Tennis teams; including all initial nutrition assessment meetings, follow ups, team talks, food demos, locker room snack orders, etc. 

  • Conduct and analyze DEXA scans and sweat tests for Cross Country, Track and Field, and Tennis teams.

  • Participate in Olympic sports nutrition weekly staff meetings, team staff meetings as scheduled, and bi-monthly Eating Disorder Management Team Meetings (EDMT)

  • Assist the sports dietitians with education, counseling, and fueling for other  Olympic Sports teams as necessary. 

  • Manage product inventory:  includes ordering, receiving, storing, and distribution to the fueling stations, teams, and athletic facilities as needed.

  • Manage our Olympic Sports volunteer program; including recruitment, scheduling, training, assignment review, and mentoring. 

  • Assist in oversight of all aspects of nutrition for our weight room/training room/etc. including oversight of fueling stations, appropriately field nutrition-related questions, and assist undergraduate volunteers.

  • Assist in development and continuous improvement of nutrition education materials and resources and write monthly newsletter for staff, students, and coaches.

  • Examine and translate scientific research related to nutrition, athletic performance and dietary supplements. 

  • Assist the sports dietitians in performing various administrative duties, including but not limited to budget and purchasing card management, eating disorder management team meetings and programming, etc.

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the sports nutrition staff.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition (or health related field).

  • Registered Dietitian (or RD eligible for July 2025)

  • 40 hours per week minimum time commitment. (will likely vary between mornings/afternoon/evenings)

Preferred Requirements:

  • One year previous sports nutrition experience.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Canva to assist in creation of education materials and presentations

  • Knowledge and understanding of NCAA and Big 10 bylaws
