Basic Overview:
In 2025, Memorial Herman Rockets Sports Medicine Institute will open two Sports Nutrition Residency Positions. One position will be a combined role between Memorial Hermann and Rice University Athletics. One position will operate fully within Memorial Hermann.
Each position is a structured 12-13 month sports nutrition residency training program under the supervision of a mentor and other sports dietitians and sports medicine professionals. The resident will be responsible for working with individual clients within an outpatient sports med and performance clinic, as well as supporting teams within high school and collegiate athletic settings. In addition to clinical practice, the resident will receive mentoring and didactic training over the 12-13 month period.
Expected Duties:
- Perform
individual nutrition counseling sessions with clients and athletes of varying
ages and abilities
- Serve
as lead dietitian for 2-4 teams within a Division 1 and/or Division 3
collegiate athletic program (MH Only Role)
- Assist Director of Performance Nutrition with Rice University Football (MH/Rice Role)
- Help manage Performance Nutrition Center operations and students at Rice University (MH/Rice Role)
- Serve as lead dietitian for 2-3 high school sports nutrition education programs
- Lead monthly journal reviews
- Develop
and execute nutrition presentations for athletes, parents, and other sports
medicine professionals
- Develop educational materials including written, video, and social media
- Media opportunities including television, radio, or written
- Precept
for dietetic interns
- Body
composition analysis
- Other duties as assigned
Expected Education and Professional Development Opportunities:
- Attend weekly lectures provided by practitioners within Memorial Hermann and guest lecturers throughout the country
- Modules for above coursework include: General sports nutrition, endurance nutrition, strength/team based nutrition, special populations, injuries - Complete assigned readings associated with lecture content- Participate in weekly mentorship hours
- Attend monthly physician shadowing
- Complete leadership training course
Salary and Benefits:
Salary is competitive with other residency/fellowship programs throughout the country. While company policy prohibits posting salary directly, please reach out to me directly and expected salary can be shared.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Food & Nutrition or related area
2. Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and licensed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) by time of start date.
3. The position requires occasional/frequent pushing and lifting 75 – 100 pounds and carrying of up to 30 pounds; prolonged standing; frequent walking, stooping and squatting. Fine hand dexterity, eye-hand coordination, the ability to receive oral and written communication, and to communicate verbally and in writing are also necessary. The visual ability to monitor instruments, computers and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors and observe physical characteristics are essential to this position.
