Summary
Under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director of Dietetics and Sports Performance, the Assistant Sports Dietitian supports the development and delivery of comprehensive sports nutrition services to student-athletes at the United States Naval Academy. This full-time position provides direct nutrition counseling, assists with fueling station operations, and collaborates with the multidisciplinary performance team to optimize athletic performance and student-athlete wellness.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Provide nutrition counseling and services for assigned varsity teams.
Assist in mentoring sports nutrition interns and student volunteers.
Help manage fueling stations and ensure compliance with team-specific needs.
Assess dietary habits, body composition, and energy needs to support health and performance.
Educate student-athletes on nutrition for training, competition, recovery, hydration, and safe supplementation.
Create individualized meal and snack plans.
Evaluate supplements for legality and efficacy and oversee appropriate use per NCAA guidelines.
Collaborate with athletic trainers, strength staff, physicians, and coaches on athlete care.
Coordinate training tables, snacks, and travel nutrition for assigned teams.
Deliver team presentations and educational workshops on sports nutrition topics.
Develop educational resources for athletes and staff.
Serve as a resource for coaches, athletes, food service, and support staff.
Maintain compliance with NCAA rules and report any potential violations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience, Education, & Certification(s)
Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field required.
Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) with active registration by the CDR.
Must obtain and maintain Maryland state dietetic licensure.
Preferred: At least 6 months full-time experience in NCAA collegiate setting.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
In-depth knowledge of NCAA rules related to nutrition and supplementation.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork abilities.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and time management skills.
High attention to detail, particularly in documentation and service delivery.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-performance environment.
Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.
Must be eligible to work on a military installation, including a willingness to submit to a background screen.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Work Conditions/Physical Requirements
Work in various environments, including kitchens, fueling stations, storage areas, and outdoor settings.
Exposure to hot, cold, or humid conditions when handling food, beverages, or refrigerated/frozen items.
Ability to open, pour, and distribute packaged nutrition products (e.g., shakes, bars, supplements, and hydration products).
Perform repetitive tasks such as stocking shelves, unpacking shipments, and preparing nutrition stations.
Must be able to lift and transport materials (e.g., nutrition products, supplies) up to 45 lbs, with or without assistance.
Push and pull carts, pallet jacks, or other equipment with heavy loads.
Use hand trucks, dollies, and other material-handling equipment as needed.
Stand and walk for up to 4-6 hours at a time.
Frequently bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and twist.
Reach overhead and at various heights to retrieve items.
Navigate stairs regularly as part of daily duties.
Travel
Occasional travel with assigned varsity athletic teams may be required.

$55,000 - $60,000
