GENERAL OVERVIEW

The Liberty University Athletic Department is currently seeking applicants for an Olympic Sports Nutrition Fellow to begin in Spring 2026. This is a one-year position that will assist in the development of the LUSN Department. Under the supervision of the Director of Sports Nutrition, this individual will provide nutrition education and counseling, assist, as well as lead in program development for assigned teams and student-athletes.

JOB SUMMARY

The Olympic Sports Nutrition Fellow will work within the Sports Nutrition Department while collaborating with administration, Champion Performance team members, coaches, and staff to serve the needs of the athletics department. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead nutrition education, support menu development, and provide meal coverage at the Champion Performance Training Table
  • Assist the Director of Sports Nutrition with daily tasks and comprehensive program development for assigned teams
  • Manage all aspects of operations of assigned Fueling Stations including product inventory, ordering, receiving, unloading, and distribution
  • Assist with management of work study students, volunteers, and interns
  • Provide team coverage including individual counseling, team education, travel meal guidance, supplement education, hydration testing, and body composition analysis for assigned teams; may include team travel
  • Maintain effective communication with coaching staffs, athletic trainers, strength staffs and other individuals from the Athletic Department on any nutrition related matter.  
  • Create educational handouts and assist with social media content related to nutrition education
  • Participate as a positive and determined team member of the Liberty Sports Nutrition Staff
  • Other duties: Perform other program duties as assigned by the Sports Nutrition Staff

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES  

This position is responsible for assisting in the supervision of work study students, volunteers, and interns in nutrition related areas

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Minimum Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in clinical nutrition, dietetics, food and nutrition or a related area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a collegiate sports nutrition setting

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS          

Minimum Qualifications:         

  • Registered Dietitian or RD Eligible
  • Must maintain CPR certification at all times.

Preferred Qualifications:         

  • Master’s Degree in Nutrition or related area;
  • Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) Credential or other advanced credentials

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY ABILITIES

  • Required to travel to local and campus locations.
  • May be required to sit to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
  • Requires physical efforts including standing, lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying light (0-15lbs.), moderately heavy (15 – 50 lbs), and heavy objects (50+ lbs).
  • Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to weather extremes.
  • Demands require prolonged mental concentration.
  • Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the campus.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.

WORKING CONDITIONS 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office, weight room, or fueling station setting as well as outdoor exposure in extreme conditions. It is well lighted and the noise level is moderate but extreme at times. 

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position.  Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
